I am a mature student of the BA (Hons) Photography part-time degree at the Universtity of Westminster London
I am interested in pursuing lines of enquiry into past and present roles of women in community. Recent voluntary work includes Community Photography for the charity Walcot Foundation's 2013 Annual Review, and Heritage Lottery Funded Projects Crystal Palace Subway Open House Event, Inspired by the Subway, Lives of Stanley Hall Portland Road, Crystal Palace Overground Festival and Streatham Festival.
My project is inspired by my developing practice in community photography together with an interest in the unique and multi-faceted role of women in society. The project is set in the ruins, the foundation of the Crystal Palace. Central to the community Crystal Palace Park provides a communal breathing space, a cherished green space serving families and members of the community of all ages. The elegance of the park and its histories invite a feminine approach to perceiving and understanding the role of women in community, an imagined force in the shaping of time. This is coupled with an appeal to artistic and contemplative freedoms of expression, which consider the presence of duty and entitlement in a changing landscape. The ruins provide a beautiful backdrop for concepts, which aim to migrate from green space and the architectural to the urban and street. The project will consist of photography and mixed media and will culminate in an exhibition and book.
